The Round Up

OCTOBER 17th 2017

This film recounts the biggest round-up of Jews ever made on the French soil during the Second World War. It happened in the night between the 16th and 17th of July 1942 during the Vichy regime. The operation, proposed by the French militia, was afterwards authorized by Adolf Eichmann and it led to the arrest of 13152 people. They were imprisoned in the Velodrome of Winter, then deported to the Drancy camp and finally to Auschwitz. The film shows rough and cold images of what happened. The actors let us feel the fear felt in the moment of the round-up and the discomfort of the imprisonment in the Velodrome. There are also some striking contrasts like the scenes showing the misery of the Jewish prisoners and the scenes depicting the Fuhrer while celebrating his birthday with his family.
